Born in the London borough of Streatham, he uploaded his first improvised freestyle rap songs to YouTube as a teenager – and with up to half a million streams, they were quite successful. He gained increasing popularity through live sessions for the British radio station BBC Xtra1. In 2016, he entered the UK charts for the first time with his debut EP ‘Six Paths’, and the following year he won the award for Best Newcomer 2017 at the prestigious Music of Black Origin Awards. He scored his first big mega-hit with ‘Funky Friday’, which landed straight at number 1 in the UK charts in October 2018 with an incredible 6.7 million audio and video streams. It was a success that Dave himself had not expected. ‘I'm speechless,’ he said in his initial reaction at the time.
